today reading again neuroscientist james austin's "zen and the brain"
austin quotes a zen master, bankei, talking about the importance of 'death'.
austin asks:
"why does bankei talk about death? because 'dying to self' is more than a figure of speech. it implies making major changes in the living human brain, bypassing and etching out old circuits of the 'I-Me_Mine'"
